Daily 5 start up

I've read the book, scoured the internet and done a lot of thinking.  I have decided to start Daily 5 in my room this year.  I LOVE what daily 5 is and what it stands for and I haven't been this inspired to try something new in, well, ever!  But...there is so much information out there and even just sticking to what the book says is a little overwhelming.  So I'm asking for help from those teachers who have done it before me.  Please leave some comments on what worked and didn't work for you.  I'm really curious and can't wait to hear what everyone has to say!  Also, if you know other bloggers that may be able to help out, please send them my way!

Thanks!

  2. I love daily 5...I don't do work on writing, because I do writing workshop, but if my kids want to do it sometimes, I do let them. I don't do listen to reading as it's own choice b/c I don't have time. My principal just got us tag readers (I teach 2nd), so once a week each group will get to use those in place of read to self. I also added my own choice I call "skills" where my students play skill games on all the skills they will be tested on (syllables, etc.). If you have any specific questions e-mail me. mduarte@mjusd.com
    Enjoy
